$400.00 Fuel Pumps

I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 4x4 pickup. I have helped quite a few people with the same or similar trucks replace their fuel pumps. Getting them out of the tank is bad enough but three hundred sixty bucks is the best price I saw any of my friends get. I see on some websites you can buy just the pump for seventy bucks. I have another friend that worked at chevrolet and he told me you can't just change the pump in the 98's because there is no way to attach the weird little plastic high pressure fuel line to the new pump so everyone's getting boned for the entire pump assembly. Has anyone found a way around getting shanked for these pump assemblies? And why does this website sell just the pump for a 98 Chevy truck? Just trying to get ready for my turn.

Your best bet is a local parts place that sells AC-Delco/Delphi fuel pumps.
Most have them in the 300 $ range.
You are wasting you time and money by trying to just replace the pump by its self.
And always go AC-Delco/Delphi fuel pump modules.

Mt I agree with what you say about OEM parts and good info being our best friend, and thanks for the response (here comes the but part), but the companies that make fuel pumps, put em in the gas tank and screw you for close to $400.00 for the fuel pump need to be publicly violated with a large diameter hot fire poker. :iceslolan

It is the middle people that mark the price up.
They go threw several jobbers and parts places before you get the price.

I totally agree about using the OEM pumps. My local shop replaced my pump with non-OEM pumps TWICE and they both quickly died. It was amazing.

I had him install OEM pump and no problems since then. They are expensive, but then again, so is every piece on the truck if you have to buy separately.

napa has the cheapest fuel pumps, much cheaper if you buy the pump and sending unit seperately. i just replaced mine and it was $175 you get into trouble when you buy the assembly, that'll run ya into the 3s and 4s

You'll forget all about "cheap" when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. If the NAPA pump is OEM, then fine. But if it's some off-brand aftermarket brand, fughedaboudit................

The only OEM pump is AC-Delco/Delphi.
And they all come with sending unit.

What brand was the Napa Feul pump?

I have seen worse,6 in one Chevy truck and were all Airtex pumps,from Carquest before the switch to Delphi pumps.I have never seen a Carquest fuel pump quit since the switch to Delphi.I know Napa's fuel pumps are made by Airtex,saw it on one of their boxes once.

You can request Delco/Delphi at NAPA.
At least at the one I go to.

How did you change the little chicken shit plastic corrugated fuel line from the pump ? Did the new pump come with one attached, and if so how do you attach it up top to the cheap ass multi dollar plastic outlet line>?

I bought a brand new AD Delco/GM OEM pump for my 1998 3500 crew cab off of ebay for $79.99. It was brand new in the sealed ACDELCO box. I got lucky that it was the one with the right 3 digit code on top and everything. It may be worth a look.
