Rebuilding a motor these days can be a real costly, and theres no
insurance or warranty.
You might be able to pick up a used motor with low miles from a salvage yard.
Just the new streach Head bolts for a V8 is around $200!
How many miles is on your LS?

Just over a 100 000 miles. The timing chain broke. Do most people just get away with a complete chain replacement. Or is there usually valve damage that incurrs?

It's possible sense ,this engine has over head cams and cam
followers that the damage isn't the same as old school motors.
I would go for a new Timing chains + tenisoners 1st
Was the Engine overhead cam chains noisy befor it broke?
How fast were you going?
Are you doing the repairs?
Whats the condition of your car ?
(Body,paint,and interior)
It's possible only one chain broke and you can narrow the problem to Bank1 or Bank2!

I hope you can believe this but the chain broke upon start up and locked the motor up. As for me repairing it that will all boil down to the price. The car is in good condition.

That's good,because less damage.
With all the used cars out there and todays economy,I like to use KBB instead of NADA for ref.
2000 Lincoln LS 100K miles in Good cond:
KBB Trade In : $3200
Retail : 5K
This might give you an ideal,of what the cars worth & How much of a
budget to work with.
CAUTION- If you tow it to the Lincoln Service shop, they will rape you for more that the cars
worth.
However it is worth money as salvage and you might consider putting it on EBAY!
Trouble shoot:
1) This car has a problem with Valve cover gaskets,Sparkplug boss seals + Cam chain tensioners,so they need tobe replaced.
2) Pull off both valve covers + inspect your cam chains on both banks.

Thanks for feed back!
Theres a 2000 LS with 115K miles on EBAY for 5.5K
The thing to keep in mind with your car having 100K miles, is the emmission
problems DOWN THE ROAD: Catalytic coverters,Pri/Secondary mufflers and oxygen sensors.
Those parts could run around 3K alone.
I think you will be in good shape if you do the repairs yourself.
I bet you will get more miles out of your Honda!
The ''LS'' = Lincoln Service

9/14/08 Raliegh Craigslist.org 2000 Lincoln LS (NO TITLE) for parts only $3000 [email protected]
it's worth about 1k,because you have to take the motor out.
You can make your money back + more by selling the rest for parts.
