Question regarding car tools

I have a stupid question and maybe if Don’t know the answer I shouldn’t plan to work on my car...

I have a 2001 GTP 85,000 miles

I’m looking for a starter tool set and looking for help. At home I have pliers and screw drivers so I don’t really need a set that includes any of that stuff, if I do need it, I can buy later.

I don’t want to spend a lot of money at first (my cut off for now is about $100) Do I buy a set that is standard and metric or stick with a Standard set?

I have a Wizaired at home and planning on installing it in the next couple of weeks. But I don’t have all the tools I need, missing the wrenches and Socket & ratchet.

Tools Needed:
1.1. Flat Blade Screwdriver
1.2. 8 & 13 mm wrenches
1.3. 5/16” Socket and ratchet or Nut Driver
1.4. Pliers
1.5. General purpose grease

I want to buy a tool set, but I’m not sure what to buy. I’ve narrow it to a few sets and open to suggestions.

Try Sears! They have multi tool boxes that contain different size ratchets, deep well sockets in both standard and metric and a host of other tools like allen wrenches and a screw driver and nut set. I paid $138 for mine but they have smaller sets. Also check the sales papers and you can get a better deal. If you intend to work on your car you will need a set of metric sockets for sure. Remember Craftsman tools are guaranteed forever! The ones from Amazon aren't.

That’s true, and I was going to stop by Sears and look around, but I dont want speak to someone who knows less about tools than I do, and just wants to sell me on the more expensive set. Plus I thought I could get a better deal from Amazon.

I’ll check the paper and maybe I’ll stop at Sears over the weekend.

Stanley does warranty their tools,call their 1-800 number on the packaging.I know someone that found a broken Stanley ratchet at the metal scrap yard and called in one for a replacement.He recieved a replacement in the mail.

I went to Sears today and picked up a 154 piece tool set for $100 I also picked up a gator grip universal socket and a pair of control grip gloves. :grinyes:

This should be enough to get me started until I get in to more intricate work.

Don't be surprised to find metric and standard on the car. Mine is Canadian, and MOST parts are metric but I have run across a standard bolt head or nut (can't remember which one) and the allen head is standard on the supercharger oil plug (or at least mine is). Best off to get mostly metric, but don't neglect to get some standard. Oh, and don't buy REALLY cheap stuff. I tried a couple pretty cheap sockets before and DESTROYED them trying to take off my wheel hub assembly, it looked like it was made of tin foil when I was done...probably was made of tin, lol.

Can someone fill me in why my 4 sided tire iron has 17, 19, 21 and 23mm but I have owned 3 cars with 20mm lug nuts? WTF?
