Front wheel bearing/smoke through ac vents

We took a road trip in my gf`s 1998 Olds 88 Sunday. Here`s the first of 2 issues that occured. While travelling down the hwy, black smoke started coming through the a/c vents and had a "burning" smell. I turned the a/c off,and the smoke stopped and hasn`t returned since. The engine`s serpentine belt looks fine. All accessories are working fine (a/c compressor/water pump/power steering). Any clue what might`ve happened?

2nd issue...........about 15 miles away from home,I started to notice a low pitched humming/growling noise coming from the front end. It`s still doing this today. Front wheel bearing is what I`m thinking.

I`m wanting to get everything resolved before this weekend. Going out of town Sunday.

Thanks!

Check all the tensioner & idler pulleys and the condition of drive belt. The "low pitched humming/growling noise coming from the front end" could very well be a bad bearing. Jack it up and check for play @ 9-3 o’clock.

Thanks HotZ28! I replaced the driver`s side wheel bearing (aka front hub assembly) and the serpentine belt, which had tiny cracks on the underside. Running good as new now!
