Guys help me here. my 96 will start just for 2 or 3 seconds then die out. If i try to feather the gas to keep it running it just dies. Seems to be a fuel issue but i can smell fuel if i try to pump it to keep it running. could it be the fuel pump? injectors? any input would really help

What size engine and what happens if you hold the pedal at a steady position?

3.8 i believe. its the top of the line model lxi for 96. if i even touch the gas it dies. will start just barely start to rev up when i touch gas then die. if i leave it alone it will die in like 3 seconds.

no check engine light? you can't keep it running at all? did this happen all of a sudden or has there been some other symptoms that have led up to this?
If you can smell fuel I wonder what kind of spark you have. I could see week spark being a culprit but unlikely with a coil pack type ignition. It almost sounds like maybe you have an EGR valve stuck open. there is a metal tube that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve. If you can get it to run for a total of about thirty seconds carefully touch the metal tube. The tube can be hot enough to burn you so be careful. If it is blazin hot the EGR valve is stuck open.

Had the exact same thing with my 97 voyager. My drive indicator lights and my tach didn't work either. My problem was the solder connection on the insturment cluster. Re-soldered and everything is fine now. Has been for two months. Try hitting the top of the dash to see if that does anything. There is a good video on the repair in this forum. The fix was quite easy. I found these links on a previous form by RIP. Try these.

Sounds like it could be your security system immobilizer if equiped. Try disconnecting the negative battery lead for a few minutes. It might reset. There are posts here and there thant talk about it. Might try a search.

Try swapping out the fuel pump relay, It's in the fuse panel under the hood. I had my fuel pump relay go out, car would start but barley run, e.g. as if not enough fuel pressure in the rack.
