Hi
There seems to be a problem with the coder input at the buttom of the dash. I went to my mechanic to check the engine codes, but no luck, he said something is wrong with the input under the dash.
Any ideas?.. should i replace it with one from the car yard?..
Thanks chris

What car is this?
Usually engine codes are checked from a connector under the hood near the battery.
What problem is the car having? Is the check engine light on?

SOrry its a 1996 Ford escort LX
The check engine light is on. I tried disconnecting the negative from the battery but still comes on.
I'm noticing when i start up the car and drive off it kinda struggles to accelerate.

Well, without knowing anything more, I would suggest to you that you change your o2 sensor if it has never been done... or if it has been 5 years or more. I'm just taking a wild guess as to what the code might be.
As for checking the code... take your car somewhere else where they know how to do it. I think the person you talked to was just a numbnutz :P
That connector should be under the hood, at the firewall on the driver side.

Hi yea i took it to a good mechanic and the connector is under the dash, i saw that he plugged in the reader and no data was coming out from the connector.
