Aftermarket Pcm

I have 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.
i just purchased a aftermarket PCM and was wondering if theres any specific way to install the pcm without harming anything?
also when the reprogram the pcm, should i have them do a Cat Delete even though thats the one thing i havent got done yet?

What brand PCM? For installation just make sure the battery negative cable is disconnected and install it like you were doing a stock one. Do not over tighten the bolts that holds the 80 pin electrical connectors to the PCM. Also, it is recommended to get a crank variation learn (case learn) but installation should not preclude you from starting the engine up unless a crank sensor DTC is set.

Case learn must be done by the GM dealer with a Tech 2 scan tool unless you have a scanner capable of doing it.

Well i got the pcm in the mail today. Problem is, i installed the pcm, car started and ran A ok but the check engine light is on? not so sure i understand the crank variation learn is all about but, would the mechanic that installed all my mods be able to fix that?

Not too many can do it and most of us take it to a GM dealership where they run a Tech 2 scan tool. About a 10 minute procedure. Cost will vary from free to a range of $40-$80.

Also, if any of the DTCs are misfire either random or fixed P03XX the case learn should be done so the PCM can properly discriminate for false misfires.

Sounds good, Also will this harm my car at all? until i find out whos gonna fix it?

I'd be speculating. If I were in a similar situation I would scan it at least and then make a determination whether it will harm anything after reviewing the DTC(s) but I realize you may not have the tools like an odb-ii scanner/scan tool like many of us have.

Well i hooked a scanner up to it, the code i got was P1336. Anyone know what that code is from? let me know thanks

Crank angle sensor learned error. It means a case learn is required since a new PCM module was installed. The matching tolerance in the crankshaft system needs to be learned.
