Forgot to mention another thing: since I scratchbuilt a brass windshield surround with acecetate "glass", I filled the gap leaved by the body and the dashboard, later I'll spray the upper part of DB with "interior color"
(TBH I'm in chrisis defining this interior color: would be tha same for dashboard, seat, canvas cover: I'm wondering if a good combo with the Ruby may be a white/magnolia interiors, may be with blue seat -do you meant those 50/60' seats color? they was done with the same textile as mechanics suits... cool..- or "flying down" with a dark grey/ruby combo... or even Tan/Ruby?.... My God I must do ton of 356 now!

Forgot one last thing: you'll see that I cut out any trim from the body, in fact I'll use my PE for chrome trims. To help the process I drill 2 small (0.35 mm diam) holes in any trim's start/end before cut them: this is why you'll see few holes elsewhere in the body :D

It just looks fantastic!

Thanks guys: done a quick polishing job, it need more patience for sure: anyway I wanted to start to share first PE jobs. PE are polished with MicroMesh and stick until 12K, than glued with 3M spray glue. Some spot was reinforced with thinned white glue. Back grill not glued yet. Sorry for picts but is very hard to have great focus on chrome parts, at least with my camera.

What a bella Fraeulein! :D

The color is delicious and the p/e looks first class!!

I am wondering though what secret plan you have for the little round plug in front of the rear wheel arch? :evillol:
I think it's supposed to be body color and the fit on mine was pretty crap so I installed it straight away before any primer / paint as a precaution (maybe I was over cautious?)

From the start of the job on the marvellous 356 I thought how to improove a stand alone flat4: following the very first prototype of a study to do cooling fins by PE: they're scale thickness thickness (fins thick 0.1mm, spacers 0.2mm) and in the correct number: still some "last detail" to add like aspiration/exaust ports. They're 62 fins and spacers for any side!

That is awesome PE-work. Absolutely stunning - makes me wonder, if you fabricated your family status made in another thread. Or does your day have more than 24 hours...?

Abot the round gap before the rear wheel arch. When I built this kit, I added this part later facing no problems with that one. And it gives you a chance to give it another shade than the body color. That is more realistic imho...!

Will you display the engine outside of the model. Would be a shame to hide all of this amaing work away.

Cheers

Robert

Here's some photoetch kutz style - i.e. a photo of something NOT being etched ;)

I'm trying this approach to the hood fit issue. Not sure if it will work but it'll be fun trying

Steve, the work is awesome: I love so much metal works, but try to not to lost the "bump" in the front central section, under the chrome trim.

You'll try to work on those but wouldn't be easy.
I tried another way when I worked on my GZox Z side deflectors: insthead a thick plate (very good for not so tridimensional shapes) , try one of those thin art alu plates, some have also a brass plated side: you'll "easily" :D model over the plastic thing, leaving offset to cut it wider. Than you get a fragile thing: coat inside carefully with a poly "20min" putty, like automotive stuff, and it will rock in a whyle. Than just mill down with the dremel in the desired thickness (you0ll leave more in the middle, scale thickness in edges). May be good sand inside before model and apply putty to have a better grip.

Luckily you seem to have enough material at disposal! :evillol:

Hi guys!
After the first attempt to do photo etched fins, I got to think a lot about: Andy helped me out a lot to fix two major troubles: the fact that mount it was tedious, slow and for sure difficult, and the fact that head+piston has (often :D) in and out ports for exaust and ignition/carbs. Cut the kit's small in/out ports and glue on metal parts would be not easy...

So we re-thought the whole thing, discuss a lot and at last I redesigned it to work with only two 1mm diam rods, so mount all 60+ fins is easy and quick (approx half time or less), the 8 corner 0.5 rods may (must) be used at last, and be mounted by bottom: they're now just estetic elements.

Well, something new born: I thought at "PE layers" just like Lego, in this way you'll prototype any form you want (at least isn't the rapid proto concept?) in plates. This time the stuff is really near to be produced, and open some interesting landscape: imagine...... ok I leave to your imagination, I got also too much of those :D

Ok time to leave space to shots:

Cheap home made proto (this time also slides)

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8195.jpg

Notice new dents: overlapping of them would help me to achieve the final port's shape

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8199.jpg

It's start to take shape

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8202.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8203.jpg

I must admit: nothing exceptional but when I seen ports take shape on the PE side I went a bit emotioned... :naughty:

Almost all fins mounted

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8207.jpg

Notice that ports shape is optimized for unique 0.15 mm thick plate: insthead those i used 0.1 and 0.2 int for fins and spacers: at last result would be same but ports shape may be smooth on final product

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8208.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8209.jpg

Just a test using tack glue with ports faces

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8210.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/P356/CIMG8211.jpg

Mmmmm now parts are usable :D, also for a novice ;)
