my Hood release cable is broken. I went out and bought a new hood release cable but I'm having no luck opening the hood from the outside. I have an 87 crx dx, dose anyone have any suggestions on how to pop the hood without the release cause Honda wants to charge me 200 bucks to fix it.

This just happened to me and it was challenging to fix without prior knowledge to the exact location of the release mechanism on the hood latch. In my case the cable was still attached to the latch but the cable housing stop at the latch end had broken off the cable guide. The hood release lever in the drivers compartment just pulled out and stayed out with no effect. In order to release the hood I had to raise the front of the car and support it on jack stands so that you can get underneath the front end and look up towards the latch. I used a coat hangar to reach up and grab the cable and pull directly downward to pop the hood. Remember never get under your vehicle unless it is secure on jack stands. My fat had was too big to fit without lifting the front of the car. Good luck.

Tell Honda to :flipa: off, you can do it for free, besides the cost of the new cable.

There is an easier way eathsheartbeat, just remove that front grille, right under the "H" symbol.
There are 3 philips head screw that you remove.
Once you do that, the latch is just behind the radiator, I'm not sure where your's is broken so mess around with it for a while.
