i was wondering how big of an amp i would want for these subs
they are 12" diamond audio subs and what gauge cable i was thinking 8-5 gauge

i was also wondering how good of quality are they

and also where is a good place to run the power thorugh the fire wall on a 1999 malibu

is it posible to attach the amp to the back of the box or would the vibration cause problems

Diamond audio are gonna be SQ subs, not SPL subs

They are probably 4 ohn speakers, so an amp capable of 500-1000 watts RMS at 2 ohms (bridged if it's 2 channel) should do the trick.

Yo can use 12 Ga wire for the speakers and 4 Gauge for power and ground for the amp.

please elaborate whats the differnce between sq and spl

and what does rms mean

and i was also just wondering what makes the differnce between good subs and shitty ones

and can you explain a little about ohms and if you could explain it like i was retarded im not but all the stuff on the internet seem kinda complicated

SQ is sound quality
SPL is Sound Pressure Level

It's possible to make the bass VERY loud but not sound to good

RMS = root mean square, basically the average since music is an AC signal. Makes a better comparison than using peak power.

There are a number of engineering choices that go into designing something like a speaker. Unfortunately, cost is a big one - you typically get what you pay for.

Ohms is just a measure of resistance. It's sometimes easier to compare electricity going thru a wire to water flowing thru a pipe. Using a smaller wire is the same as using a smaller diameter pipe, the resistance to the flow is higher. Remember, the higher the ohms the more it impedes the flow. The problem going the other way is that the bigger you make the pipe diameter, the more water it takes to keep the pressure in the pipe the same. This is what happens when you put low impedance speakers on an amp, it tries to pull a lot more power out of the amp. So if you wire two speakers together in parallel, it halves the load on the amp just like if you now have two pipes of the same size carrying the water - it can carry twice as much water.

so bridged means both subs are running off the same channel right

so a channel is + or -
so a two channel is one + and one -

yes, bridged means putting two channels together.

One amp channel = a + and a - , the current goes in one side and comes out the other. In bridged mode you most often use the + side of the left channel and the - side of right channel. The biggest benefit is that not only are you adding the power of the 2 channels together but since each channel only effective sees half of the load, it also doubles the power of each channel. So you can take two channels that would be 100 watts each at 4 ohms and bridge them together and now the total output will be 400 watts into one 4 ohm speaker.

so you hook the + from one channel and hook it up to the - of the other channel on the amp and use the other two connections to run the speakers

the manual will tell you exactly which ones ... in fact, it is often marked right on the amp speaker terminals which ones to use for bridging.

what manual? i dont have an amp yet thats why i asked how big of an amp i would need and i bought these subs off someone for $80

I meant when you DO buy an amp .... it will come with a manual

i just wanted to find some stuff out before i getit so i dont have to do it when i do get it

You need to know what the maxium rms that the sub-woofers can handle and go from there. Just my 2:2cents:.

I think those are therated at 400 RMS if that is the old DM1 but it may not be so dont take my word for it. But I would look into sundown or hifonics brutus amps. But idk what your budget is like those are high quality amps. So find out what sub they are.

where would i find out because they dont say on them and usally the have a sticker or something
and also does anyone know where i could run the wire through the fire wall

It the sub woofer is a 12" speaker it is 400 RMS, and if it is a 15" speaker it would be 500 RMS.

there should be grommets in different places on the firewall

is that a rule to go by if you arent for sure or something and would that be for each of them?and ive been looking on the internet and i cant seem to find out anything about these particular subs

That would be for both. I was able to google Diamond subwoffers, and get the specs on the speakers.

i called them today and they told me that they are 400 rms and 800 peak and i also googled them but i still couldnt find anything

does anybody have sugestions on amps like what brand how many channels rms watts stuff like that

budget on this is around $200-300
