Newly reformed Rage Against The Machine, known for their activism almost as much as their music, were scheduled to perform at a political rally in Minnesota on September 2nd before their set was cancelled due to the band allegedly showing up without the proper permits.
Word got out that the show was being cancelled and the crowd quickly became unruly and began chanting “The Star Spangled Banner” and the famous final lines of the band’s hit “Killing In The Name.” Not long after, the band appeared in front of the crowd with Zach De La Rocha and Tom Morello speaking to the fans and singing acapella versions of “Bulls On Parade” and “Killing In The Name” via megaphone. They then proceeded to lead the crowd in a march towards Xcel Energy Center, where the Republican Party Convention is being held. This apparently lead to further protests along the way.
According to law enforcement, the reason for the cancellation was because the band arrived too close to the 7PM curfew set for the performance and they didn’t have the proper permit required for the performance
