Clutch upgrade help..

ok well heres the deal, im going to be upgrading my clutch in about a month or so to a spec stage 3 clutch. but what i want to know is for you ppl that have done a clutch already, do i need any gaskets or seals of any kind? and basicly i just need to unbolt tranny mount and drop the tranny subframe and take off the Tcase rite? pretty straight forword? im gonna do the rear main seal while im in there for sure. but what gaskets do i need so i can order them b4 hand. thanks.

well your going to need to drop the pan if your going to do the rear main seal, so you will need the gaskets for the oil return lines and plenty of RTV for the oil pan. Lots of fluid for the tranny and new fluid for the tcase. You will want to replace the TOB and make sure to use plenty of grease on the pivet point. Get your flywheel two steped, and clean the face of it and the clutch disk with carb cleaner before install. Make sure you torque everything down on the pressure plate properly and when you put the tranny back make sure to not let the the tranny hang on the clutch as it will throw it out of center. I think thats just about all I can think of at the moment. Good luck.

You dont have to drop the oil pan. I have replaced a few rear mains and never once dropped the oil pan and never once had an issue for doing it the way I did it.

As for dropping the trans it is pretty striaghtforward. I can have mine on the ground fairly quickly.

Really? I guess I just always drop the pan while I am right there.....never really tried not to.

Yeah you are going thru the process of removing the whole housing. I've never felt the need to do it that way and just remove the seal and seat the new seal.

I am about to go replace my rear main seal and I am just going to replace the whole thing. There is suppost to be a "special tool" I am sure I could make something work...aka the old seal on top of the new one...but I just bought the one already installed so I guess I am droping my pan.

What are you talking about? Have you honestly ever had one with problems? I have sold a shit load of spec clutches and I havn't ever had one complaint.. not one..

What issues have you had with yours? What clutch from spec was it? and what would you go with?

The springs have a tendency to explode out of the clutch disk. We've had quite a few come through the shop with this problem. And that is one of the major reasons why we refuse to even sell them.

Really?? Thats why I don't sell South Bend.. I sold 3 when I first started selling them and all 3 came back for that reason! I haven't ever had one come back from spec..

Every clutch company has problems of some sort. You only hear about the problems though and hardly ever the good ones. There was a time on 3si where everyone went spec and then you hear about 5-10 (dont know exact number) going bad....well out of how many? What matters is customer service as this could happen with any clutch and how its fixed is what matters.
