Hey all. I have a 1989 s15. When in overdrive or drive after hitting 25 mph engine revs and won't shift. It drives fine in 1 or 2, but I shouldn't do everyday driving in these gears right? Also, I checked transmission fluid and it was bone dry...what is maximum capacity for tranny fluid...I don't want to over fill. I have added some but dipstick still looks low. Please help!

Running it out of fluid will burn it up fast.
With engine hot and transmission in park engine rubbing fill it up to crosshatch on dip stick.
Post back how it does after you get it full of fluid.

I finally got some info on max capacity and they said 2.5 quarts, I put that in but dipstick still not getting reading to level it should be. No visible leaks either. I was running the engine at all times and even took for test drive and checked level after about 10 minutes of driving...same reading...barely any fluid at tip of dipstick.
P.S. Thanks for reply!!!

Where did you get the info on 2.5 quarts?

It takes 4 quarts (if I remember correctly) just to fill the pan...forget the rest of the transmission.

Get it full of fluid before you burn it up.
If not allready burnt up.
You can burn them up running them loe or out of fluid.
Just takes a couple of minutes to fry it.
Most takes at least 4 QTS with a fiter change and sometimes more depending on how much drains out.

Max capacity is way over 2.5 quarts, a fluid change is somewhere around 6 or 7 quarts. As MT said, fill it until the fluid is at the top of the crosshatch area. Then, drive it for a few miles and see how it does. You are probably way low on fluid.
