Does anybody make an X-type model? Even a die cast would be OK, I suppose. I wanna make this...

Is it possible to mate plastic to metal? I'd need it for making the wheel flares, and front bodywork. Hmmm, maybe a resin mold might be worthwhile. Who know how to make resin bodies?

FOTW, if I made negative of this car out of say, poly fila or drywalling mud, or something of the sort, how difficult is it to make a "positive" out of resin? How do you get good consistent thickness? Could I reuse windows?

I think I could get this diecast for like $10CAD at Superstore... wow, this would be a fun project...

I was thinking of building that same model. I have a few of those x-types that I did small custom jobs, such as rims and new paint. The car is so simple to take apart it shouldn't be too hard. Instead of making resin I think i'm just going to put putty or syrene right onto the body. If any body else has any suggestions this is the thread to post it.

Would you strip the paint off the die cast first?

I don't think the putty will bond very well to either paint or metal, which makes things rather difficult. Could try putting in the extra detail with metal instead of styrene, JB weld instead of glue, and Bondo instead of plastic putty.

I can get the decals cut by my brother, who works in an advertising firm where they have silver reflective vinyl and a plotter... just need a good image of the Jaguar symbol which shouldn't be too difficult. Beyond that, the text may be a pain, but I might be able to get that plotted as well.... The only problem is where to get the rims?

I've not really looked into modifying diecast. I do know there are plenty of sites on net of people who do modify them so the best place to start is search for them.

hey Geez, i found these rims at www.tuning18.com. They look decent but they are a little pricy at 23 bucks, without tires. I'm going to paint them white like the jag. BTW I would love to purchase some decal material from you. also I can draw up the jag logo in photoshop to use on the car i'll post it for you tomorow.

Posting the logo would be sweet!! Unfortunately, I don't think I can sell decal material. I don't even know if I can get any myself. It's my brother's work, not mine! It's also not a decal, but reflective vinyl. It is significantly thicker than a decal, but shouldn't be too bad on a 1:18 car. I won't be looking to get the decals for a few months yet (my bro is in another city!) and I'm not sure if I'll even be doing it in the long run. Have to find a donor car and a place to work on it... and time... time is always an issue.

Here's what I have so far, but the decal on that car is more boxy...

Let me know if your are still interested in doing this project. I can get you a 1/18 silver X-type for 10 USD without a problem. I have a few of them that I am detailing and selling. I have one finished with a orange to purple chromalusion affect with nitrous, new rims, brakes, and lowered.
