anyone please, please, please help. i have a J-reg prelude 2.2 v-tec, RHD Jap Import. It has been parked up for approx. 5 months after i broke my back jumping off bognor pier. The car was driven and parked with no faults. i am unable to get a spark to any of the plugs. i have been given various ideas to what it maybe= Dizzy, ECU, Coil and so on.
If anyone can help or knows of any common faults after a prelude has been sitting for a while, i would be so so grateful. Main Dealers are so expensive aren`t they!!
Cheers THE BORG

Do the standard checks. Check for spark. Check for fuel. If you have spark & fuel pull the plugs and check to see if they are fouled. Try new plugs. Use NGK plugs. When these cars sit for awhile they have a common problem of flooding themselves. If when you are trying to start the car it sounds like it has no compression (turns over real fast). Pulls the plugs and disable the dist. then crank the car over to clear the engine flood, reinstall the plugs, then try to start normally, if it doesn't start right away try holding the gas pedal to the floor while crancking over the engine (sometimes this may take awhile). If the previous doesn't work sometimes you have to pinch off the fuel pressure line to the injectors then try to start, this is a 2 man job. Good Luck !!!

1. Fuel. If you didn't put in fuel stabilizer when you parked it, you probably have a fuel system full of laquer by now. Flush (siphon) out the fuel and put fresh fuel in. Turn the key to the "on" position and let that fuel pump crank away for a minute or so. You might even have to dance with the devil and put some injector cleaner in that gas tank. Depending on how bad it is, you might have to pop the fuel pump, lines and injectors off and clean them all. Happened to my sister once upon a time - NOT fun.
2. Pop off the distributor cap and check the points on the inside of the cap and the rotor. If there's any corrosion, you should be able to polish it off with either a shop rag and mineral spirits, or really fine-grit sandpaper if it's really bad.
3. Test the spark: pull the wire off of cyl #1, stick a long flat-head screwdriver in there, turn off the lights, and put the screwdriver about 1/8th of an inch away from a grounded part of the vehicle. crank the starter and watch for consistent spark (it will be fairly slow) as the starter turns. If you don't get any spark (and the distributor cap & rotor look okay), you'll have to test the coil. The 4th gen's had an external coil, which should be easy to test, though I've never had to do it.
Oh yeah - Change the oil and filter! If you're really picky about it, you can take off the valve cover and get a generous amount of oil on the cams and rockers during the process.
