How do I get the distributor back in right?

Dumb mistake: I yanked the distributor out of my '86 Golf without marking anything. Didn't think I had to; I just thought it'd be like the distributor on my bug, which only went in one way (or am I remembering wrong?)...

Now how do I get it back in right?

Help!

Take off the upper timing cover, and line up the marks on the cam with the TDC mark on the valve cover. Then make sure the marks are lined up on the crank and lower cover. Then mark straight down on the distributor cap the #1 plug hole (just draw a line from the center of that hole down the side to the metal part of the distributor) this will be the mark for the #1 tdc. Then take the cap off and put the distributor in. If its installed right the center of the rotor will line up with the mark on the distributor case you put on earlier. It will take a couple trys because the teeth move when you put it in.
