Installing alarm system

i bought a alarm system with starter and my ? is what is the easy to go though my firewall so i can put the horn and is it already so holes on the firewall o yea its a 1995 caprice

You'll have to drill some holes

A '95 should have a fairly effective VATS system. Without the key or a flatbed tow truck, it's not going very far. That still doesn't prevent someone from breaking in, but the car should still be there. An aftermarket alarm actually defeats the factory VATS, and isn't as reliable.

Follow Blue Bowtie's advice above. If you're hellbent on replacing a hell of a system with a somewhat good system, then drill your hole where it's most convenient.

Well talking down to us isn't going to get you any points. Also, stereotyping likewise won't get you any points. Just for your information, it doesn't get any more urban than where I live. But I appreciate the thought!

If it were mine (and I've lived in the city, had one car stolen, one attempted but VATS stopped it after the column was broken up, and one vandalized for the radio), I'd forget about the remote starter which requires a VATS bypass and just install a good alarm system. Some of the better ones have a cellular dialer, similar to OnStar. The alarm can make noise and call you if someone tried to break in or tow the car, and the VATS will keep them from driving it away.

As for the holes, you could drill new holes, or route your new wires through the grommets already installed in the firewall, I'd avoid using the grommet installed for the throttle cable just to avoid any sticky throttle potential.

There is a pretty good spot between the master cylinder and engine. You can loosen the cover plate used to seal the steering column in place and route the wires through there, nut make sure there is some kind of protective sleeve to prevent the wiring from chafing on the opening in the firewall.

Yes, you'll have to drill holes like I said. I wouldn't try using an existing grommit because of the age of the car. I am sure you have a billion miles on your ride and GM rubber gets hard as a rock in a small amount of time. If you really want to get into a grommit, spray WD40 on it a few days prior to install to soften it up.

VATS, what a joke. When it came out in the 80's it threw a lot of thieves for a loop but once it was discovered it was easily bypassed. Besides, all factory alarms are all set up the same way which makes it easy for a professional thief to get around them.

Installing a very nice alarm with remote start doesn't automatically make your car easy pick 'ns. When properly or professionally installed, it makes it just about impossible to steal. If this weren't the case, I wouldn't be making 100k+ a year from my shop. One thing I'll add is that if someone wants what you have bad enough, eventually they'll get it.

For alarms/starters I recomend www.scytek.net , best bang for the buck
