I heard that GM might release the production verison of the volt on September 16. LETS HOPE SO!

I hope not, unless you mean of 2009. The last I heard, just a few months ago, the battery technology was nowhere close to what it needs to be. Releasing a car before it's good won't help anything.
Electric cars also aren't the fix for anything, except cost of gas. We get almost all of out power from coal, which is much worse than gas from a pollution standpoint. Look at what goes into a car and where it comes from, not what comes out of the tailpipe. I'm not saying it won't reduce the pollution in huge cities, but it's just puting it all (and probably more)somewhere else. Of course, if people actually care about anything except the cost of gas, they'll be charging their electric car off solar power.

Latest word from GM is a 2010 release. Not all are happy with the final product:
