Steering Box Adjustment

Reference: 2001 F-150 XLT 4x2 with power steering.
What is the proper adjustment for the steering box? I have heard that about a 1" play in the steering wheel is one way to tell, but I have yet to get it adjusted correctly without feeling stiff. Any help is appreciated.

tighten the bolt the back off 1/4 turn .one inch play is not much considering all that is moving.
