92 Honda Accord Fluids Question

Just bought my 1st Honda. Its a 1992 Honda Accord.

Have two questions about what oil to use.

I'm replacing a worn out manual clutch and want to know what is the best manual trans oil to use. The owners manual says to use 20/40 or 10/30. Does that mean engine oil? Read from a previous thread of someone using
10W/30 engine oil. Wasn't sure what to buy, so I bought 10W/40 engine oil for the trans. Can I use that?

Engine oil. Owners manual said to use 5W/30 as prefered viscosity. Other threads said they use 10W/30. What is the best to use? The car has 132K on it. I live in Des Moines IA where the winters get pretty cold and it will get cold soon.

Monte.

Yeah the old ones used motor oil in the gear case...

That 10w40 is fine...I use Rotella 15w40 fleet diesel oil just because it's cheap and very impervious to breakdown, made for long haul diesel trucks.

132k is still pretty new for a Honda motor...I'd use 5w30 in cold weather and 10w30 in summer, long as it has no oil usage issues...i have 190,000 and just use 10w30 semi-syn year round...

Jeffcoslacker,
Thank you for the reply. I'll use the 10W/40 for the trans, and 5W/30 for the engine. When the weather changes, I'll switch back to 10W/30 in the engine.

This forum is priceless!
