Hi,
i just bought an aftermarket tach. i want to install it on my 97 corolla, but have no idea where to begin. if anyone can give me some detailed instruction i'd appreciate it. its 4 cyl, sd 1.6L model. the tach itself has five wires, black(thick), Green(thick), Red (thick), Red(thin) and Black (thin). the tach also has a switch in the back to adjust for 4, 6 and 8 cyl cars. let me know if you need more info.
thanks.
regards,
Jani

More info on the tach is needed. Brand? Model? It should have come with installation instructions, but if you got it second-hand, company websites usually have online copies as well.
I'm guessing some wires (thinner?) are for powering the meter (illumination and signal processing) and the other (thicker?) wires are for attaching/splicing to the ignition system to sense the spark pulses from a single ignition coil. If the '97 has coil-on-plugs, then this meter won't work.

hi,
I don't know the brand or model since i bought from my country this summer, and the instructions are in chinese. although it does mention info on 3 of the 5 wires. for Red it says (ACC), Black (-) Ground, Green (signal), White (B+) this wire i don't have. also the spark plugs don't have soil on top of them.
thanks,

Take a look at the following web page. It isn't your exact setup, but it is very similar.
http://www.offroaders.com/tech/Autogage-Tachometer.htm
The red (ACC) wire connects to a key-on circuit for power, the black (ground) goes through the firewall to a good solid body ground, and the green connects to the negative pole of your ignition coil's primary winding. I'm guessing the white (B+) wire is for illumination of the gauge face and/or redline light. You mentioned a fifth wire before but couldn't tell you what it's for.
All I can suggest is to continue searching for install instructions for any A/M tach and check them out to see if they are similar to yours. Good luck!
