Car Kit Help

This Isn't Diablo_VT, I'm one of his friends and he's letting me use his account to post this.

Basically.. i have a car kit that plugs into the lighter in the car.. when I plug it in the red light on it lights up but it doesnt play the music from the ipod plugged into it. I have no idea what to do, i've tried plugging it in first then starting the car but that doesnt work. I really want to get it to work since my CD burner isnt working and the radio annoys me

please help

Have you tried it in another car? Should you get a green light instead of a red light. Try using some brake clean and clean the plug. Does the lighter work indicating you have power. A fuse maybe burned out?
