Molding lines misery

Hi Guys, I have a problem that occurs nowadays concerning molding lines: after sanding the molding lines on the bodyshell, I primer the body. Everything is smooth and nice at this point. I always use Dupli Color car paint on my kits, works well with no problems. I bought some cans of Dupli Color Mirage flip flop effect spray paint which requires a black base to bring out the paint shifting effect. The molding line start to appear after painting the black base. Then I sand it down again to have a very flat and smooth surface and paint a layer of black again. At this point, everything is nice again. Than I spray the color effect paint, and molding lines appear again after the paint has dried. Do you guys have any idea what the problem can be??? It drives me crazy, especially because it has never happened to me before! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

It's commonly referred to as 'ghosting', I know some good solutions have been posted before.

If we can get the search feature to work, we could find the threads :lol:

Try applying the duplicolor primer sealer. This has solved the problem for me.

Thanks guys, both of you! I didn't know it is called ghost lines, but now I know what to do next time. It is a pity it has happened to my new Tamiya GT-R :frown:, it is high-time to buy a primer sealer. Thanks again!

I don't think I've ever experienced this in 20 years of modeling. Hmmm....weird.

I had the same problem on Tamiya Peugeot 206 WRC...the ghosting appeared right after priming and wouldn't go away with more layers. I stripped the paint and used some coarse paper and sanded away the ghosting, puttied it and primered again. Now it's perfect.

There is an easy and quick cure fo ghosting:

After you sand the molding line, apply with a brush liquid cement over the sanded mold line and let it dry for 24 hours.

After it´s dry, prime and paint. No more ghosting!
The liquid cement will act as a barrier to the ghosting effect.

I use the Tamiya extra thin liquid cement for that and it works perfectly.
