The lock tumbler fell inside the door, can I just go to the auto parts store and buy a new one or does this need to go to the dealer?

Welcome Aboard!
Actually, I'm somewhat surprised at that. Not so much that it fell in, but that GM actually bothered to put locks on an Aveo.
All kidding aside, it sounds like the spring clip holding the cylinder in place has failed, or was damaged as a result of someone trying to gain entry. Either way, about the only way to repair it is to remove the interior door trim, expose the mechanism, and reattach/repair/replace it. The lock cylinder may still be intact and serviceable, but you will only know once the inner door trim is removed for inspection.
If the cylinder is damaged, replacements can sometimes be purchased in sets at auto parts stores. However, these sets will not be keyed the same as the original, making it necessary to either replace all the lock cylinders or have a cylinder pinned to your original key at either a dealership or a locksmith. Personally, I'd try the locksmith first if you need to replace a cylinder.
