Hi.
I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla LE, 5 speed. I am the only owner. The remote stopped working any longer along with the Panic button. This happened last night right after my husband worked on the front driver side brakes. That wheel had been heating up and we noticed some uneven wear on the pads.
Could this have anything to do with the remote not working? Is there a reliable source for obtaining a new remote? Do they stop working after a while? The batteries are fine (tested with a battery tester and also bought a new battery to double check).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for replying to my post. I brought the Corrolla to the dealer and diagnosing the problem costs $150.00 and they found that the receiver (located in a back panel on the passenger side near the window) was defective and needed to be replaced. Dealer cost of the part was $595.00. They also said to look at junkyards as a source of a new receiver. They said it was the first time a Corolla ever had this problem. In hindsight I wish I had just opted for the following instead of having it diagnosed as a cost to me.
I opted to get an aftermarket keyless entry system and panic button from an automotive alarm/stereo company. The cost $199.95 installed the same day. Works fine now and no need to pay the dealer cost plus the cost of installation and programming.

WOW, where are you at? $200 for a keyless entry??? My shop charges $135 installed for the deluxe unit with 2 keyfobs with 4 buttons for lock, unlock, panic, and trunk release. For $200 you'd almost get keyless with remote start.
