2002 Tahoe erratic shift

I've recently begun having problems with the transmission in our 2002 Tahoe.
If I accelerate at about 1500 rpm, it shifts fairly normally, but if I accelerate at a higher rpm, it seems to "hunt" between 2nd and 3rd gear before finally settling into 3rd. The engine rpms "flare" during this process like the transmission might be slipping or in neutral at that point.
The car has about 87,000 mi on it and I had the transmission flushed and filter changed recently, but that didn't seem to change anything.
I am hoping that there may be a simple control issue here and that I may be able to avoid major repair or replacement.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

your transmission was damaged by the flushing proceedure this practice is the cause of many transmission failures...
Once again to all "the removal of the pan and filter is required."..I recommend that this is done at 30,ooomi.....and then depending on your use every 30,ooo-50,ooomi....
If you do this properly it may correct your problem........

As said a flush sometimes kills them.
Was it doing the same thing before flush.
Engine also has to be running good for the transmission to shift good.
Get it on a good engine/transmission capable scanner and see what is going on.
Post back any codes or data out of specs.

Also check for transmission slippage and high shift errows.
Have dealer run your vin for TSB on 2-3 or 3-2 shifting clunk.
They say some 2-3 and 3-2 shift clunk is normal and more on a 4W.
Is yours a 4W?

This is the first time I've heard that.
I have an '02 4x4 and have no clunking during gear changes. 126k miles and smooooooooth shifts.( whether I'm towing my travel trailer or not. )

I recently had the transmission flushed and filter change ( pan was removed) done in hopes that it would correct the problem.
This work was done at an independent garage with qualified mechanics.
They did not report finding any codes, but then I don't know if they have the proper scanners for transmission codes.
Probably my next move will be to take it to the dealer to see if they can do a more thorough diagnosis.
I haven't noticed any 2-3 or 3-2 clunks.
My Tahoe is 4x4
Thanks for the inputs

Flush on a high mileage transmission is not good.
Most good repair shops have transmission and engine capable scanners.
Ask them if they do and have them test it out if they do.

Update 12-12-2009: After messing around with this problem for well over a year, it turns out that the shifting problems disappeared after replacing the Mass Airflow Sensor. My mechanic replaced it after we started getting Service Engine Soon messages. Don't know what specific codes he may have found. Anyway, the transmission now shifts perfectly and the fuel mileage is vastly improved.

Thanks for posting back how it went and the fix.
Good luck
