Has anyone ever heard of this before?
Vehicle shake: Extended-cab, long-box models shudder when accelerating from a stop requiring replacement of the two-piece driveshaft with a one-piece driveshaft. (1999-2001)

I just called a couple of dealers and they have never heard of that...probably some theory that never came true...

No way it will work right.
If it is shaking check all joints and center carrier bearing and have shaft checked for balance and U joint timing.

nope it isn't shaking, I just noticed one of the slip yokes (just rear of the center support bearing) had damage to it and didn't want to reuse it...
now I am looking for driveshaft replacement options...but few people (much less junkyards) have extended cab long boxes...
this may be hard to find...oh well. what else am I going to do with my time?

I've got a yoke on order, have no idea if it is the nickel plated one or not (it oughta be for $250-$140 at gmpartsdirect)...at first I thought I might need the whole middle driveshaft as it was damaged (Ok, Ok I did it) when removing the u-joints...the yoke was rusted on and the machine shop finally got it apart, and they say the stub is good enough to reuse. so a new yoke it is.
I just walked around the junkyard this weekend and saw all of the huge, lightweight aluminum driveshafts from pickups and vans and wondered why I couldn't have one of those...it would be nice to bypass the extra u-joint and slip yoke and center bearing though wouldn't it?
And when will I stop fighting? hell I don't know, as soon as it gives up and starts recognizing me as the master....so far I am getting my ass kicked!
You just let me know when you are in the neighborhood and we will wrench in it together!
But it isn't near time to retire her yet, so more time and $$ spent learning this beast. I am just concerned about what will be next after reading all of these posts?...
hell, this thing is still on jack stands and the front drive shaft is still turning (when on stands). the rear driveshaft has been out for a couple weeks now and it hasn't been on the road. but whenever I get the rear driveshaft installed, it will be off to the transmission shop to have the TC codes read.
We did get the air bag kit installed though, that sure seems like it will help when necessary.

any time your in seattle area, boss, any time. and i have BIG lot, plenty of space to mess with both of ours.
i was quoted around $400+ for nickel plated yoke, so.....
you know you can sandblust them rusted ones, right? and before you install the new one, pack the crap out of the output shaft with that miracle GM lube. funny thing, they price a can of it so high, that when i decided to buy one at local GM dealership, guy quoted me the price, then looked at me - must have been my jaw dropping down or something - and gave me 50% discount right away, not even asked to. so i got it only for $27 and pennies. good grease though, works well on garage door hinges.:naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Well, I don't know that I want to spend more money on GM only products...I am going on bottle number 8 of their super duper special transfer case fluid since I have replaced it with two junkyard cases so far...
Leaving Friday for Canada (same place that started this whole mess two months ago!) and the Silverado will be watching from the sidelines. It won't be fixed by then. Poor truck, she hasn't missed a trip in 9 years.

You let me know if the dealerships in Seattle will buy that...cause they aren't too smart here in Little Frisco (Madison, WI), but they will see through that one. I called three dealerships and asked them if they had heard of such a thing...nope.
I hate dealerships. I should build my own truck from scratch next time.

i saw your 1st post no sweat. i think it might be worth digging into somewhat further. maybe doing some deeper reserch on that issue, maybe writing a letter to GM. there should have been some grounds for them to say what they said, ay, mate? where's smoke.....
