Blown Engine

I have a friend who is a single mom and recently her engine blew (I think it is due to lack of maintenance/oil changes). She is struggling with money big time. This is a fairly new car that is still in the warranty period. Is there anything she can do or say with the dealer that would allow her warranty claim to go through?

She punched a hole in the engine block. Any suggestions on trying to clean up/hide the negligence....

she can try i just doubt the oil not being changed would blow it up. but running it out of oil thats another story. but then again if it's still under warantey you may have a chance..good luck.

scrapper1another thing it shouldn't be out of oil under warantey.or it used oil after it's still under warantey so you got a chance.

If it's out of oil because of a sudden, major leak from a seal or gasket failure, they might cover it.

If it ran low on oil from neglect (no visible leaks, not burning oil), they could refuse it.

When you can't afford major (or even minor) breakdowns, basic maintenance such as oil changes & checking fluids becomes more important.

Yes, running an engine on low/old oil can cause it to blow. The bearings can spin or wear causing play between the crank journals. This can cause you to throw a rod through the engine block, blowing the engine.

I suppose it depends on your definition of blow. Does the crank just need the regrind and new bearings or has she punched a hole in the block. Either way I agree with Mr3GTP on this.

more info needed but if it did throw a rod cracking the block i would go with fac warranty.if she hit some thing causing the problem then her auto ins.may cover damage.either way try to clean up any negligence on her part

No. That should be straight forward. Any mechanic that tears down that engine will know what is up regardless

just have it towed if you still have wrty you might be supprised

no way she threw a rod. must been racing it to beside not changing oil. i really doubt if you can get it replaced now even though it was still under warenty.it is not there fault. but thats just my o.p.

Nope, you don't need to be racing it. You could have a spun bearing and one pull over 3,000 RPM can do the trick. It's not hard to hit 3,000 RPM. I don't question racing. I'm sure this is a case of negligence.

The info missing is how many miles/time is on the last oil check. It may not be her fault at all. It very well could happen imediately after a proper oil check.
