98 Durango GOV Pressure Sensor Indicator

98 Durango redlines before moving, feels like it starts out in 2nd or 3 gear but once you get going it shifts like normal, noticed it when I went to pick up new shocks for it and through a code reader on it at the local Checker and the code came up 1765 GOV Pressure Sensor Indicator, the lady there told me it's a dealer only part, so on the way home my 14 year old son says, hey dad maybe if you put it in one of the extra gears and the shift to drive it will drive normal kinda like it's a 2 speed manual, so low and behold it works, the next day I took it to the dealer and they said it's in the transmission and it's going to cost about $1000. Is there anything else I can check before I waste my lake of the wood money for this winter. but please help me because until I get this fixed, MY WIFE HAS MY NEW TRUCK!!!!!!:banghead:

Hope you got this fixed....the sensor in the trans is like a $50 part (call two or 3 dealerships - some will try to screw you on mark up, one of my local dealers tried to tell me it was $185 - this forum saved from that) The procedure fro changing it is the same steps as changing the trans fluid and filter, just one extra step to change the sensor. Call it total of $100 fix....

I am having this same exact problem. I went to several local dealer ships to price out the "governor pressure control sensor" and got a price of around $120-$140 from all four dealerships. I purchased one and installed it. In the mean time I had to replace the fluid, filter and gaskets (no biggie).

(The installation is actually very simple if you have a warm and dry place to do it. )

After replacing the sensor, I still have the same problem and I am still getting the same code.

I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, after reconnecting it, I started the engine. After starting the engine, the Check engine light was off. After letting it run for a while to let the engine "re-learn" everything, all seemed to be fine. Well, after turning on the lights and radio, the check engine light came back on and the same code was being displayed.

So, I know that the original sensor was good and came to the conclusion that there is a short in the electrical system and the sensor is not getting enough volts to run effectively.

If anyone comes across the same problem and get it fixed or if you have any ideas, please let us know.... Thanks

I'm pretty sure theres a gov pressure indicator and gov pressure solenoid, what i read here is the code is the same but 9 out of 10 try is the indicator, there is still the possibilty it is the solenoid. Anyway - hope this helps.
