Hi Okay so here is the deal. I have a 2001 grand prix 3.8 non supercharged. it has 156000 miles on it and runs GREAT. IU mean GREAT, however i know for a fact that in the 6 months i have owned it it never recived a transmission flush or fill full or partial and i know the previous owner never did one. My question is should i have it done i have talked to diff shops and some tell me yes it would be good and other shops tell me that flushing know would lossen some of the metal shavings>:screwy: :screwy: your guys expert opinion would allow me to sleep at night thank you:confused:

Any metal shavings are on the bottom of the pan. If it has a pan where there is a replaceable filter, then there is you chips in the filter pleats and settled in the bottom of the sump cover.

Say, you have for argument sake, just drop the pan and change the oil. You still have the torque converter oil and that is say 9/10 quarts there and 5 or so on the refill.

So, you just contaminated your 5 against 9 in the converter. I would have to dump all that oil a few times to remove the old with the new. But if you had that machine that keep dumping oil in and pulling that converter oil out until you see clean oil is the flushing machine is worth every penny is clean/clean/clean unbroken down oil about to run smoother through all the parts and clean it a little better than the older mixed oil could.

I've never had mine flushed in 349,000 miles but I did have it changed once or twice. Sometimes flushing causes problems. And right now it runs great. Just my experience.

Check out our old posts on whether you should flush the autotransaxle either a full power or fluid exchange service. Results are not too good and there are some horror stories costing members big bucks. Just do a pan drop service and replace the screen filter especially with your mileage.
