I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE LIFTERS ON MY S-10. IT IS A '99 2.2L 2WD. IT HAS BEEN MAKING A HORRIBLE TICK SINCE LAST CHRISTMAS. I'M SORT OF SURPRISED IT HAS LASTED THIS LONG. I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO REPLACE LIFTERS AND IF ANYONE HAS EVER DONE IT AND HAS EXPERIENCE. IM TOLD THAT THE LIFTERS HAVE TO BE TAKEN OUT THROUGH A SIDE ENGINE COVER AND CANNOT COME OUT THROUGH THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. I NEED HELP! THANKS.

Make sure it is a lifter first.

Best to get some good repair info on it.
A factory repair manual or a All data online sub.

lifters can only adjust so far/so much.... if all are loud I say excessive engine wear..

There is no side cover to remove, the head has to come off.The 2.2 also has timing chain problems and yours is not an interferance engine.the 1997 and down 2.2s are interferance if the timing chain breaks, bends valves.
