1996 ranger staling problem

1996 ranger..2wd..manual trans..2.3L
During idle the truck runs great. When you accelerate the throttle and let go, the engine stutters and shuts off and has a hard time starting back up. If you wait a minute, it starts up and runs great again at idle, until the throttle is open, again.....but, when you open the throttle, and slowly release it all the way back to idle, the truck stays running..its doesnt stutter or shut off..can anyone help?
