No vtec???

my car has a zc vtec , a week ago the timming belt slip and i recently re timed the car and checked to make sure the compresiion was still good incase the valves hitand it was all good.. but now the vtec isnt working?? if u unplug the wires for it the car runs the same and cuts out near 6000rpm... so i know it isnt workin for sure,, i put a new vtec cilanoid on and still nuthing, what else controls the vtec? and can i just bypass it buy makin my own wire from the computer?

whats good is it havin vtec if u cant use it:( :(
