I have a 2001 S-10 that came with a factory Delphi CD player. I bought the truck used, and replaced the CD player to an aftermarket unit. Had the aftermarket unit in for 4 months or so, and decided to switch back to sell the truck. I switched CD players fine, but when i went to start it, the truck went crazy after about 10 seconds. The gauges starting jumping, the digital odometer was changing numbers fast and flashing, and then everything goes dead. I know some later model GM vehicles have their airbag and electrical stuff built in the radios, but why would everything start to go crazy when trying to reinstall. I also tried "resetting" my theftlock but radio will only come on for about 6 seconds, and that is when i hold the "recall" button on factory unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as how i have a buyer interested in it but need this issue solved first. thanks for any help posted

I have no clue? How about you remove the battery for a few minutes. Let the memory burn out and the revert back to base signals on the ROM, meaning, like a fresh hard drive you just wiped out and now the software is up and running you have a dash.
Keep the radio out of the car is check your wiring for a ground short to the ECM signal.

***update***
left battery unplugged for around 12 hours, hooked back up with JVC cd player attached and everything was good. Tried to install jvc cd player by putting mounting kit and all that in, which required unhooking cd player. After i hooked it back up i got the crazy sytem again. I unplugged the battery, hooked up the factory radio and tried again. with a battery charger on the battery, i get power in truck, but w/o it i get nothing. With charger on truck will not start. maybe unplug battery again for several hours with GM radio installed?

I think you want to keep the radio in the back seat first. Lets see if you have a car that starts up no problem = Radio-less.
Because you keep adding a variable is we want to see if the radio is the problem or the /ECM or the crank sensor is the glitch to dash whackage. But, I think I am reading you have that "Need to install the radio to make the sale" is lets get the car up and running first.
Then (you act dumb) say the car runs and all but go ahead, install the radio on your own... I'll take $100 of the car's price is you use that money to have someone install the radio (looks around see if anyone is laughing)... http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/images/smiles/heat_smilie.gif
See, you where worried an all that is let the radio installer worry about it. They probably come across that a lot is you are home free! http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/images/smiles/ohyea_smilie.gif

ok tried leaving battery disconnected for about 3 hours. Unplugged battery, hooked up cd player and let it sit. Nothing. And your idea about selling radio-less would work if the car would actually do anything. radio in or out yields same result.
