I swapped the gauge cluster in my 88 DX cuz the temp gauge wasnt working and I couldnt fix it after checking every possible cause mentioned here (maybe I missed something).... now that I switched the cluster (from a junk yard) the civic is running very rough and the gauges are not working at all.... probably going to switch back to the old cluster but a fix for either problem is appreciated... thanks

Try swapping out just the gauges from the new cluster... chances are, the new cluster has a ground short in it somewhere, which is causing the engine to run rough, and the gauges to not work.
You can just unscrew and replace the center set of gauges, if that's all you actually need.... you can also just swap the clear circuit film on the back of the gauges, which is even easier, and if your old gauges worked, (disregard the faulty gauge, as it was most likely the gauge itself.) that film should work fine with the new gauges.. however, I would first recommend swapping the centers, since this won't affect the displayed mileage on your car.
