95 chevy astro needs dire help

I have a 95 chevy astro van 4.3l and have a huge problem. :crying:Traded it and took it in to shop had to replace cat,air intake sensor, and few other small things like cap and rotor and wires. But now I have this lovely new problem. I go to step on the gas and it acts like someones holding on to tail end of van. It has no power to the petal. It sputters like its starving for fuel. Shop I took it to told me i need to change egr valve but my goodness just spent 400 there what else they want blood.:banghead:

Hoping like heck you can tell me it sounds like dirty fuel filter or something cheaper and easier to change I already hate taking doghouse off this thing do not really want to do again. Please help. 4 kids and a not so great running car dont go over well. thank you.

Since the cat converter was replaced, I'm guessing that further possible exhaust restrictions have been checked and are not a problem. Does the engine start easily and idle normally, or does the starter have to be operated for more than one second?

With the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL, does the engine rev normally if the throttle is opened?

If you are somewhat adept, you can remove the intake tract, MAF, air filter box, and upper fan shroud, and expose the EGR valve. Removal and cleaning/inspection might reveal a problem.

is there an odor of gas? 95's are prone to failing spider injectors. and often go misdiagnosed and people spend 100's of dollars replacing the wrong parts untill they find the right problem. you can take it to the dealer and have it properly diagnosed..it might save you money in the end.
a bad spider injector will emit a smell of unburned gas and cause a huge lack of power and will get worse as time goes on. what happens is the plastic injector...thats right i said "plastic" wears out and leaks raw fuel inside the intake manifold, causing a lack of fuel to the cylinders.
the egr valve is also another posibility and for your case i hope it is because the spider injectors arent cheap.
