hey all! im in the process of getting items together for a future build of the
aoshima toyota sprinter trueno ae86 with the 4a-egu engine kit. i plan on wiring and plumbing this kit to the max!

*what i am looking for is any any good reference 1985 toyota trueno 4a-ge engine and whole undercarriage pics.
*has anyone wired and plumbed this kit yet?
*what wires and the such would you guys recommend for this job?

i went to my LHS today and picked up the kit in question along with:

*what do you guys use for vacuum and radiator lines?
*how do i go about correctly building the mentioned distributer kit?

i am also going to be building a whole new exhaust and muffler system. from studying the pieces, and from what i can tell, it comes with the standard factory exhaust. i will be picking up some brass tubing at hobby lobby tomorrow so that i can build the muffler.

*what would you guys recommend i use?
*how would you guys recommend i make the exhaust?

so if anyone can help me out with my questions and/or has or know someone who has built this kit or any kit that has this engine and that has done the whole wire and plumbing shebang, could you please post here or pm me with links, pictures, ect.

Can't help you with engine reference- never seen one.

For vacuum and coolant lines, I like to use suitably sized solder.

For the distributor, you will need pics of the distributor on the engine you're building. Then, make your part look like it.

For the exhaust, find some pics of exhausts you like, and copy them as best you can.

I believe the distributor is basically molded after the MSD distributor found on most american V-8 engines, but you can use what ever top you want with it. Personally I have found that building distributors from scratch is MUCH more realistic than the Detail Master kit you have there. The DTM dizzy you have DOES turn out to be a nice looking unit when done, but it's very aftermarket/race look kind of limits the applications you can use it in and have it look proper.

Exhaust is an easy one. Just go get a couple different thicknesses of solder (non rosin core) and just bend it as you see fit.

Hoses and such are easy as well. use solder, thin wires, what ever you have laying around the house. In line fuel filters on carburetted cars can be replicated by using the clear resistors found at radio shack, or by tearing apart an old radio. Fuel injected fuel filters can be replicated by using the silver canister looking type resistors and such also found in old radios, or at radio shack. Most of your plumbing inderhood and undercarriage can be found in old radios, televisions, and various electronic equipment.

Hi bark This sounds like a very cool project. Funny thing is I have just ordered the AOSHIMA Initial D version. I'm also in the process of extensive scratchbuilding for my slightly larger (1:9.3 th scale) project.

I've found a wealth of reference photos and infos on several AE86 forums;
HACHIROKU.com , AE86.org to name just two. There are at least a dozen sites out there so be ready to spend some time researching. Good luck on your HACHI!! :biggrin:
