Hey
so i swaped the float off my 97 grand prix fuel pump into my 2001(was reading wrong)(it worked fine in the 97)
so now i installed it in the 2001 and the car starts but the fuel guage says empty and the low fuel light is on
i put 10 bucks in it and still the same reading
any help ?
ps i know their are 1st gen and 2nd gen pumps, but the floats are the same only diff is a extra sensor on the top of pump

How did you install the level sending unit? Was it complete with the wiring harness and electrical connector or did you splice it in?
Although the level sending units appear the same the GM/Delco part numbers are different between the 1997 and 2001 model years. Also, I recall around 2000 there was some change at the level sending unit electrical connector. See if the pin layout and wiring color coding match. The fuel pump and level sending unit share the same electrical connector located on the top of the fuel pump assembly.

you never want to splice into it. hope you got the one that just plugs in and if you did sounds like a bad ground.

The connector thats plugs into the pump itself in the bottom middle was a bit diffrent, i removed the pins from connector and pushed in the other ones without splicing it.
They must be diffrent in the voltage range that tells the comp how full
they look identical to the eye but mabye not, i cannot find a ground wire off that series of wires that run back out of the tank and go up into the truck
is it grounded inside the car futher up?
called for price of a new 2001 float and guy told me 320
i looked at the old float from the 2001 and there are 3 teeth on 2 things that slide across the rainbow of tabs well one has a tooth missing and the other has the normal 3, this is the issue im guessing
ive had this pump out like 7 times im a pro at now lol but im going to check for a cheaper float if they are avilable aftermarket

Problem Fixed!!!!
the board must be diffrent from 1st gen to 2nd pumps
i put the old circut board back in and started it up with the 97 float arm and it WORKS!!(only the float arm from 2001 was broken)
the resistance must be diffrent from 1st gen to 2nd gen
Hope you all read this to help others out who try to swap 1st gen to 2nd gen pumps!

Reason is the gas tank fuel capacities are different between 1997 and 2001.
So obviously the level sending unit calibration will be different.
