There is a problem with my clutch and I'm trying to find out what the problem is. I was told that it's just the clutch cable and it's not much over $100 to fix.
I've been looking around online and it seems that I just need a whole new clutch.
Here's the problem:
The "biting point" is a lot higher now, and I can let off the clutch completely [faster than normal, but not too quick] and the car will move [gas pedal not being pushed at all] as if I were holding the clutch in place right at the "biting point", the RPMs will stay right under 1000 as if I were sitting in neutral, and it does not stall and just keeps moving.
Anyone know what the problem is and how much it will cost to fix it? Thanks.

It sounds like the clutch to me. did this just suddenly happen or has it been progressivly getting worse? I had a ford ranger that one day just refused to move when put in gear, we thought that the trans had went out but it turned out the hub on the clutch disk had sheared off.

BTW, these cars don't have clutch cables, they have hydro clutches. the pedal is connected to a master cylender, that presurizes a hyd. line to the slave cyl. that dissengages the clutch.

Cavaliers don't have clutch cables?
Also, it happened suddenly, although I think it may have slowly gotten worse..
It happened the same night I let a friend try and drive my car. She did alright, but of course stalled atleast 20 times. I'm assuming this was the final kick, huh?

Oh.
Well, this is my first car, and to be honest I don't know much about cars at all.
Is there any type of fluid that I need to put in for my clutch? Could the shift cables be the reason for my clutch not working the correct way? [Shifting is fine, if not easier than it used to be.]
I've paid only $200 for the car so far, paying $2000 altogether. Is it worth it to replace the clutch if that's what is needed?

The transmission you have which is a Getrag F23 uses ATF, and the clutch master cylinder uses D.O.T. 3 or higher brake fluid. If your fluid level is still full and nothing is leaking, then it is YOUR CLUTCH.
If your car shifts just fine and goes into all the gears, there is nothing wrong with the shift cables. Don't touch them inside the car at all which is where adjustments are made.
A new clutch will probably run 300-500 bucks depending on where you buy it from. Honestly get a GM/ LUK/ Ripset clutch. With labor and everything, your looking at around $1,000-1,200 easily not doing it yourself.
