When i replaced the coolant in my car (A 1995 Cutlass Ciera) *It does have the 3.1L in it.* I drained the coolant out plus ran the heater so that coolant would leave it. When i added more coolant i filled it up to top and let it stand for a minute. While the car was off and the fluid was topped off, I started the car while the heater was running. Coolant will then flow through the heater core and then i just add more coolant into the reservoir. I have read before you have to keep running the car with heater on otherwise when you drained the coolant the car is not getting the fluid to be cooled. I also read it could crack the block because of the difference between areas getting radiator fluid and not, but not sure on that.
How did you replace your coolant? Did you turn on the heater?

Are you sure you added the coolant where you were supposed to?
Did you make sure you didn't drop any caps and get anything caught in the belt? How much coolant did you drain and how much did you add?
Sounds like you may have not put enough coolant in and you overheated something = broken.
Where is the noise coming from, and what kind of noise is it.

OMG - this sounds ominously bad...
I really sympathize with you. Changing the coolant should be a simple, safe and harmless operation, or else some engineer should be fired.
Maybe its (just) the waterpump? That could be relatively cheap compared to a new engine...
Good luck

That's a very dim view of the said "ominous" problem. Way to hate on GM.

I like GM, as international corporations ruled by unpatriotic elite superrich go.
Next I suppose some twit will call me out for criticizing Haliburton corp. and the mayor of New York.
So bring it on. Only at least bring it. A brain I mean.
