immobilizer issue

I bought a 2001 GP GT and received two keys and two aftermarket remotes with "Identity" written on the button. The car will not start without pressing the "Identity" remote while turning the key. If I do not press the remote the engine will turn over but not fire. However, periodically it WILL start without using the remote. Does anyone have any idea if this is an add on immobilizer? ...or could it be that the remotes are working with the factory immobilizer? I would like to have the vehicle back to factory original.

its defenatly not factory and sounds very annoying. I'd just figure out whether the immobilizer is killing spark or fuel. Then from there diagnoseit further.
You can also remove the drivers kick panel and see whats in there. I suspect an aftermarket box with maybe a relay spliced in between one of the igniton wires. Just cut that crap out of there.
BTW, what does the red LED do in the center of your dash?

Thanks for the help. You got me pointed in the right direction. The aftermarket immobilizer was the ignition relay replaced with one that has an antenna wire attached that receives the signal from the remote which activates the relay allowing the car to start. I replaced it with a new relay from the parts store and the GP is starting perfectly...without having to push the remote button.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
