The problem, my real car
I said a couple of weeks ago I would be taking a break from models, because of myself getting a real car. But the hopes of getting this car are going downhill, it is mine. But it is at someones house, it's un-regoed but I can't seem to convince my dad that it is a good opportunity for me to get it. If I don't get the car I will be extremely dissapointed but I may get back into models, leaving so many kits undone whilst on a break grows on you until you feel like you've done a bad thing by not completeing them. I'm not sure what to do, to go back to them or to try something else, I've tried all I can to convince my dad to pick up my car but he keeps talking back boasting what are in his mind, negative effects of getting the car. I've offered to take another car apart to get this one in, I've found otu all the info about it, all the info about getting a rego pass but none of it is convincing enough.
The Models
Anyway, on to the models bit. I have a unfinished Hemi `Cuda, a Superbird, El Camino, RX7, Zeus Tarago & an on going thing with a calsonic Skyline. It's all tempting me back, and to add to it I've just got word that I've been invited to join a model club in my area and we are having meetings every Tuesday as of next week until sometime in July. What the hell should I do?

What is it you are planning to get?
It may not be what you want to hear...but listen to your old man....he's probably been though it all himself and just trying to help out. If i'd done what my father had told me i' wouldn't have wasted all the money i have on cars. I always beleive that when a gate slam's in your face a better one opens up later on.
Dont rush into it.
The Models
If your not in the mood to build...dont. Go to the model club later on....it will get you back in the mood once you see other cars etc

I agree with P-Man, when I was younger I wanted to have a bike and my father didn't want to get me one. So I didn't got it. He said I had to work for my stuff (car, bike etc.) and pay for it myself. Now nearly 20 years later, I'm glad I didn't get the bike. and I only got my first car when I was 20. When I had made enough money to buy one myself. Bottom line is, your old man is doing what he thinks is best for you and sometimes it's not what you want to hear, but at the end of the day, you'll understand and other better opportunities WILL come around.
Again like P-man said, if you're not in the mood, then don't. Me fe I havent' been modelling this year until the appetite returned last week. So I got going again at my unfinished projects. It's not because you don't feel like modeling right now, that it's gone for ever. Remember this: Plastic modeling is not just a hobby, it's a way of living. And once you got bitten by the "virus plasticus" you're infected for the rest of your life :D So the club is a good idea.
Good luck buddy and keep the spirit high

Your old man might be right. Mine was (i'll never let him know ) right
i Have wasted enough money on drag and street cars i could have owned a couple of houses. But talk to him about other opptions and see what he comes up with.It may make him think about it as well.
to the kits thats why i build now its cheaper and its a good stress relief (sometimes).

Warren, it's a 1973 VJ Valiant, it is MINE but at the previous owners house. It was offered to me for free, because the owner didn't want to sell it, but he didn't want to sell it cheap so some kids could take it out and "Disrespect" it. The owner asked my friend, but he already got a car from another friend in the neighbourhood, so he said no. Then my friend asked my other friend and his parents said there wasn't enough room, and they want him to get a new car. You know what its like when your a youth ( I hope you remember all those years ago :D ) you want to do up your car, I've even offered to get a job to keep this car running with petrol etc etc. I've started working around my street washing cars and helping with house duties for other people. I offered to free up the "room" that is already at my dads house to put my car there.
It's not that I'm not in the mood to do the models, I didn't want to spend all the money I spend on them now, when I could put that money into my car. I don't want to start a job that takes up all my free time already for minimal pay and save for a car. I've been offered a perfectly fine (un regoed) car for free from a mate. Thats why I dont know what to do, but I suppose I will have to keep just working around the street here to get abotu $100 to buy new supplies, paints, spraypaint & brushes etc.

Well it is a great car if you plan on doing it up.
But these older cars can be such a huge drain on your money and parts can be hard to find, and when you do find parts people want the earth for them.
Maybe just sit down with your old man...have a good talk and try and make it a project you can do together :)

Offer to your dad to start doing more things to help out or to make money to convince him that you can handle the responsibility of it and if it needs parts, make it a father-son project. That's what I'm doing right now, and it may work for you. Good luck.

Yeah it's an alright car, looking through just one issue of Streetmachine I found around $8000AUSD of parts for it, including some Convo Pros ( :bloated: :D ) New superplush carpet, similar to the stuff in the new Jag Daimler & other things. I can get the whole thing airbrushed if I want for free also repainted and sandblasted for half pric, and panelbeating for free, rust removal, free, engine repairs, close to free. It pays to have contacts!
Well I'll try my hardest to convince dad this weekend, I'll start taking the other bomb apart ( Volvo 240DL, spare parts car for our 265GL) so there is room, then I will do domestics for the rest of the day to pay off $10 of petrol and then I will get my arse to Katoomba to the RTA, get a slip. Catch a train back to where the car is, pick her up and get dad to drive her home. Hopefully :( Heres some pictures of a 2door version for anyone who doesn't know what they look like. If I don't get any more success this weekend I'll start saving some money for new modelling supplies to finish all these musclecars waiting. The Valiant I've been offered is brown :o

:hehehe: calm down Pman, the VH was the E49 Charger, the VJ would be a E38, not as good. But mine has a possibility of having a 245 hemi ( same engine in the E49) I'll find out this weekend.
