Hood release cable

Where it clips into the hood latch, where does the spring around the end of the cable run? I, foolishly, didn't look when I took the old one out and then after 2 hours of fighting with removing the old one and finally getting the new one in, forgot how it looked. I see how the end piece on the cable goes after the clip, but how does the spring not get caught in the clip? If someone gets a chance to glance at their hood release cable, shoot me a reply here or if you can take a picture, that would be great :)
