My '99 Intrigue is leaking coolant but my mechanic can not find where. Everytime I drive it I have to fill the overflow tank. When I park the car I see fluid on the ground but can not see where it is coming from. The hoses appear to be fine and the mechanic wants me to commit to a $500 repair bill even though he doesn't know what's wrong after putting it on the lift and checking. Any ideas from anyone?

time for a new mechanic first of all there are pressure testers out there or dye can injected into the system to help locate leaks

Yeah, a second opinion is definitely in order. There are better ways to find leaks than just taking a look under the hood, and JD listed them.
Personally I wouldnt take it to the dealership, theyll charge you 25 bucks just for pulling their parking lot.

Don't bother a mechanic unless he finds your problem. I went to chevy once and they want a 100 just to check your car because they think they got the magic touch lmao hell with dealers. The 100 won't apply to the work either if you'd pay.
Look at the bottom of the car a 1/2 hour after you stopped driving better in a garage its like water it could evaporate

Just had a "no see um" coolant leak fixed on my 01 Intrigue. The problem came from the coolant crossover pipe that supplies coolant to the cylinder heads. The gaskets were leaking since I flushed out the orange, thick Dexcool radiator fluid and replaced it with the standard green fare. It took my mechanic a mirror and about 20 minutes to find. Trouble is, most of the intake maniforld meeds to be removed before the gaskets can be accessed and this can be rather costly.
Hope this helps!

Had the same problem recently, it was a cracked intake manifold. I was told it was common on the 3.8 because of the plastic intake. Part was about $150.00, the labor about $250.00
