99 Taurus Sunroof Leak

Hi,

I recently bought a 99 Ford Taurus sedan with 65,000 mi.

The car is usually parked in my garage (since May when I bought it). I had it parked out in the rain yesterday, and noticed that there was a little water around the drivers side rear of the sunroof. So I put a hose directly on it to test it and water started slowly dripping in.

I am on vacation so I can't park the car in my garage, so I'm nervous about what is going to happen to my interior when it rains. I noticed that there were three screws on each side to adjust the roof, so I played around with them to try and fix it, but I think I just made it worse.

Any help would be appreciated, as I think it is supposed to rain here tomorrow...

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, probably about all you'll be able to do without having your garage and tools is to open the roof and see if there is some debris in area of the seals preventing the roof from sealing properly. Also look for the drains and if there is something covering one or more of the drains, try to remove the blockage.

If neither of these help, you could tape over the sunroof and metal roof seam to keep the rain out for now. When you get home, you may need to remove the headliner to inspect and probably reconnect one of the drain tubes nearest the source of the leak. There is usually one tube for each corner of the sunroof.

aside from what rod said (i agree) the wheater strip could be damaged or have a local body shop adjust the the roof to were it should be let us know

Thanks for the quick responses. I removed the roof glass, cleaned everything out and cleaned the gasket that goes around the glass. I put it back in and tried the best I could to fit the glass properly into place, tightened the 6 screws, and no leaks! We had heavy rain today and there was no water around the roof at all. I was afraid this was going to be an expensive dealer trip... Thanks for the help!
