98 lumina brake issue

Sometime when I'm approaching a stop slowly and just feathering the brake I feel a thump in the rear as if the passenger side brake pulses hard. It's not related to the peddle and just happens on its own. The car has ABS brakes so I'm suspecting something related to that.

Sounds like a tire with a belt separation. Lift it and spin the tire, see if the tread waves side to side or has bulges...
the aBS light would come on if the system was active...that's not your problem.
