My sons Jetta that we have only had about 2 weeks had a major oil leak yesteday. For some reason the oil filter gasket blew out and squirted out about 3 quarts of oil in 30 seconds. Thankfully he was just leaving the house and stopped right away. We took off the filter re seated the gasket, topped of the oil. He started it and drove it out of the garage and it did it again. Tonight we replaced the oil filter with a new one started up the car, reved up the engine a little and same thing. Popped out the oil filter gasket and spuirted oil all over my clean truck :frown:.
So my question is why. What is creating so much presure as to blow out the gasket of the oil filter? Yes it was on straight and snug, not to snug, been working on cars/trucks for over 25 years now. But this is my first VW
The car is a '97 Jetta 2.0 man trans.
Any help?
Thanks, Dave

I had the exact sme thing happen to me too. We just went to the dealership and bought a new gasket and then put some stuff that makes things not sqeak. I dont know how it is called in English. But then once we tightened everything, it still works fine to this day. maybe you need to get the gasket from the dealer.
