A/C fan intermittently turns off

Hi all just wondering if anyone else has had issues with the A/c fan turn off when used (on hot days). lately it has been happening to my wife's car more often. It is a 2002 corolla.
here is the symptoms: the climate control's temp dial sometimes does not light up while all other dials light up(possible open in the control panel) but that didn't bug us too much. now with the A/C on (led lights up), fan to any speeds, to any vent or feet or windshield....the fan would stop ...then come back on then stop (etc..). while all this is happening the a/c button led is still on, just no fan.:disappoin I am not sure if I have a defective climate control panel.
TIA ray

Thanks for waiting at least 1/2 hour for a reply before reposting. There's lots of people in here, but not everyone drives a Corolla.

Sounds to me like to either have a failing blower motor or the fan speed switch may have some corroded contacts. I don't think that the dead light in the panel would be a factor, but wouldn't hurt to fix that as well if you're gonna pull it out. Hope this helps!

I don't know the spceifics of your model, but typically each of the controls are attached separately to the A/C dash panel from the back side. You'll have to remove the surrounding trim piece first to get to the screws that hold the A/C controls in...that is usually snap-fit, but there are sometimes small screws that are visible on the underside. Also, the trim piece is sometimes one big piece that also includes the instrument panel bezel and there are typically screws holding that in as well. Just work slowly, and I';d recommend getting a door panel removal tool (like a angled screwdriver but looks like it has two blades...google it)

Here's a thread I could find regarding dash panel removal along with some links to pics:

Sorry abt the 1/2 hr note...it was late and I hadn't had enough to drink. Good luck!
