98 Jeep Grand ZJ I6 4.0 132k miles
just bought a complete exhaust system from Pep Boys all OEM nothing special Manifold,Cat ,muffler and Tailpipe .
plan on doing the work myself but have a few questions
first the pipe from the manifold to the cat im guessing is something that is special built as i cant find it anywhere im hoping i can salvage that once piece but i may not be able to due to rust/crack or whatever.
second the tailpipe i recieved was all bent to fit and the accual tail piece welded on i was curious as to how you put this part in place as it is bent to go over the rear axle do i need to drop the gas tank as this looks to be a crazy fit?? maybe im just not seeing it right?
also i forgot about 02 sensors how many?? i only see one for the cat is this something that parts stores have on hand or will i have to special order.
Thanx in advance hoping everything goes smoothly

I am curious as to why you are replacing the whole system. I'm just making sure that you are aware that just because the original is welded doesn't mean you have to replace the whole thing. First, the o2 sensors. If you need to take them out , start the engine and let the exhaust warm up, then unscrew them and you won't damage the threads. Second, to install the tailpipe you have to raise the rear of the vehicle and let the rearend hang. You should have enough room to snake the tail over the rearend. Some of the Jeeps you have to put the tail over the rearend on the drivers side and slide over to the passenger side because of the swaybar.

Accually this is a repair thats been a long time coming the manifold has a small crack the muffler has a hole and the cat is starting to rattle so i figure might as well get it all done at once :-)
any thoughts on the Manifold to Cat pipe?? not sure if this is something i have to have made or i can special order?
thanx for the reply on the tailpipe ill give that suggestion a shot

Usually the front pipe holds up pretty well due to heat etc. If you can't cut the converter off and reuse it then you should be able to order from a parts store or go to a local muffler shop and they can get it or even make you one.
