Spark Plug Changing

Anyone have experience with changing the spark plugs and spark plug wires on 97+ Grand Prix? I heard in order to get to the back spark plugs you must loosen the motor mount bolts and let the motor roll forward.

No, its just a little tight to reach the back 3 plugs, but it can be done.

I certanily hope your using AC Delco parts.

Why? Will I be looking into changing alot of other things if I use an off brand like Accel.......

I was raised with GM, and AC Delco, and I am very skeptical of any non-delco parts. Myself, I would stick to Delco, but its your car, and Accel must be a decent company, so I say go for it if you like, I'm just very, very, biased, I guess.

Just don't get those Boush? plugs. They don't play well in American ignitions. Champion, AC Delco, I've never used Accel though... could be alright.

A Mechanic friend of mine looked at my GTP, and told me that I needed the plugs and wires changed. and he specifically told me to use AC Delco parts on the Grand Prix. He said that Poniacs handel AC Delco parts alot better than other parts.

I have changed many plugs and wires on these cars yes you can do it no problem, and yes it is alittle easier if you move the engine forward. As for Delco plugs and wires all I got to say is that the computers were designed with these plugs and wires and the engine runs better using what GM called out for. You can put in what you like but its at your own risk!

Check MSD's Website, i assume that its http://www.msd.com look for a dealer locater, im guessing advance or autozone.

Really from Jegs? I may have to stop in this week, since the main Jegs store is only 30 miles from were i live.

Jegs is the cheapest place I have found for MSD Wires and I have done hella research.

I only somewhat agree with the ac-delco parts they are good until you start modding your car as soon as I did exhaust and a CAI I all of the sudden had a misfire. I replaced the plugs and wires with ac-delco and I also replaced the ignition coils, still misfired. Put on MSD wires and NGK TR6's plugs and it fixed the problem. It may have been a freak thing but it worked wonders for me and I will never use ac-delco again.

can anyone tell me the Part # on the MSD wires and the cost.

I have no clue on cost, I just bought some delco wires for "Bad Blue" and they were about $35.00, so I imagine MSD's to be $35- $40 for a complete set.

I'm gonna be installing some spark plugs and wires on my car this weekend, I'll tell you how long it takes me.

well I undid my front motor mounts and put a jack with a small board on it under my oil pan and tilted the motor forward, sounds 10x harder than it is. From hood open to hood closed I would say it was under 30min.

yeah, i was told to rool the motor forward. So all you need to do is loosen the motor mounts in the front and the motor will rool forward then? I have never had the mounts loose on my GP yet.

it wont just roll foreward you have two options, park downhill undo the front mounts and put the car in gear and let it roll foreward or you could undo the mounts and put a floor jack under the oil pan and jack it up, it will tilt foreward but be sure to put a board bettween the jack and the pan or you may have a mess.

Put the parking brake on then put the car in neutral, the engine will roll forward easy. If you want tie a rope around the mount eyelet and pull the engine forward tying the rope on the frame.

As for changing them, it's tight, but you dont "NEED" to move the engine mounts unless you cant get your arm down there.

Just put plugs in my GTP. You'll learn some "new words", but you DON'T have to losen anything. But they are fun. Delco is what I use. Is there anything else?

Plug number 6 is the hardest becuase of that damn o2 sensor.
